2.19.12...Boucakes!

So, this weekend I had a bit of free time.  Well, free time for me begins after 9pm when most of the kids are asleep.  I decided to give cupcake bouquets a go, and it was so much fun!!  There were definitely a few important lessons learned.  #1: Don't handle the clay pot with greasy, buttercreamy icing hands.  #2: It's kind of important to mark where each cupcake is going before frosting them all and shoving them in haphazardly. :)  #3: Probably a good idea to make sure you have cupcake liners in one uniform color.  I wasn't planning on doing cupcakes this weekend, so I didn't make sure I had all of the supplies.  I had to dig through my pantry which is why in the pink bouquet (with the greasy pot) you'll see stripes on the cupcakes...oops..these were leftover from valentines.  I'm also in search of super strong cupcake liners.  It's quite frustrating when the liners buckle when pouring the batter into cupcake pan, and pull away from the cupcake once they're done and out of the pan. Although, after some troubleshooting I think I've found the solution to the liners pulling away problem. I've been taking my cupcakes out of the cupcake tin as soon as I get them out of the oven. Yes, it's quite hot, but I think this keeps the steam from warping the liners which maybe causes them to pull away.  I've also been baking them for a bit longer. I think when they're underdone, even a little bit, they're too moist and this causes the liner to pull away as well.

I suppose rest time is over.  Valentine's day is slowly creeping up and I've created a couple of cute new cookie designs.  I am loving the zebra print heart...so cute.  This past weekend was also my son's 13th birthday and he requested a grenade cake.  Not my favorite design.  The icing color resembled an avocado, but he was incredibly happy and that is all that matters.

1.16.12

Well...it seems to be that I am somehow taking cake orders again.  I don't quite know how this happened, because I haven't even sent out an official email yet. I've actually just been thinking a lot about my business and where I want it to go this year...and poof here came two super fun cake orders out of the blue this past weekend. I had so much fun creating these cakes. I think it must be a sign... So, the ovens are back on....BUT, I am only taking 2-3 orders a weekend, nothing more.  Let the fun begin.

WOW...what a busy Christmas cookie season.  Thanks to all of my awesome customers who ordered cookies.  I think it's time to give my poor rolling pin a week or so off. :)  I hope everybody had a very merry Christmas.

The Best Cookie Cutters EVER....

I recently stumbled upon a lovely home based business that makes absolutely stunning cookie cutters.  I've posted pictures below. These are the best cutters I've ever purchased and worth every penny.  www.ecrandal.com  Not only am I loving the cookie cutters, but this was the best customer service I've ever had.  You can read all about them on their web page, but from what I recall; the husband makes the cookie cutters, the wife packages them, takes orders, etc. and all of the kids (I think 5 of them) help out.  They are a bit pricey...but again, worth every penny.  I can't wait to order more!!  :)

And how sweet is this note? I think it's written by one of the kiddos, but can't remember.
